Here is a really cool activity. It takes a bit of time, but it looks really cool in the end. It’s colorful and abstract, which is why I call this project abstract shapes. But you have to be extremely patient to pull it off.

The materials needed for this abstract picture are:

  • 1 piece of paper
  • Coloring utensils
  • Writing utensil (I recommend a pencil)
  • Sharpie (optional, only if you want to outline your lines)
  • A ruler

Next, draw all of your lines. Your shapes can be as big or small as you want them to be.

First, you take the the ruler and lay it on the paper. It doesn’t matter if it is diagonal or straight. Then you pencil out the ruler with the pencil. Keep on doing this until the paper is filled. The lines do not have to be from one end of the paper to the other. But all of the lines have to be touching. You don’t have to use the ruler for the whole time, you can also make curly lines with your pencil. Next, if you decided to use a sharpie, you can outline the lines. After you are done outlining with the sharpie, you take the coloring utensils and color each shape a different color. This WILL take a lot of time, so be patient. When you are done with coloring, you will should be looking at a colorful picture.

Some people like to do really big shapes, and others like to do tiny shapes. The tiny shapes obviously take more time, while the big shapes take less time. To me the small shapes look cooler, but it is okay if you want to do big shapes. It is just whatever your heart desires.
