It’s finally here! The NFL Playoffs have begun and teams are thirsty for a ring! These teams include the Marcus Mariota and the defense stacked Titans, the duo of Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt Chiefs, the future hall of famer, Drew Brees and the rest of the Saints, and the Cam Newton led Panthers. Can these teams come together and win a championship or will these teams fall apart and end their quest for a Super Bowl title. People underestimate the wild card which is a huge mistake as wild card teams have gone on to win the super bowl six times since 1970. These are some of the teams who hope to be the seventh.

Awful Announcing
The wild card weekend was a interesting one as the upset were plentiful and the games were all close.

Moving on the first round of the road to Super Bowl LII(52). The wildcard kicked off with the Tennessee Titans against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was to be a very interesting game as the Titans made a huge comeback as they were down 21-3 ending the first half. The Titans defense was on point as they shut out the chiefs in the entire second half. It was up to the Titans offense now. They came out feeling pumped. Whatever the Titans Head Coach Mike Mularkey had said lit a spark inside the Titans because they scored 19 points straight to punch their ticket to the Divisional Round against the Patriots.

“If I had a projection I would say the New England Patriots because they have lots of experience but Pittsburgh and possibly Philadelphia,” said ISR teacher Steven Willoby.

7th grader Charlie Hughes where’s Carson Wentzs jersey to brag about the Eagles win over the Falcons. The Eagles went on to win 15-10.

Moving onto the next game on Saturday night was the 6 seeded Falcons and the 3rd seeded Rams. Both of these teams had high expectations for this Wildcard matchup, but surprisingly Atlanta came out on top 26-13. In the first quarter, it was a defensive game which you don’t see much anymore. Because no team made many first downs in the first quarter it was a surprise when  Atlanta was able to recover a muffed punt and was able to get a field goal. It was 13-10 Atlanta going into halftime. The Falcons were able to get something burning inside them as they blew by the Rams finishing the game 26-13 as the Falcons board the plane for Lincoln Financial Field against the number one seed Philadelphia Eagles.

Even though the Falcons fell to the Eagles 7th grader Brayon Wesson shows his loyalty to the Falcons. The Falcons blew by the Rams 26-13.

“I think that rules are rules, though I would like to see the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs,” said Willoby.

Moving on to Sunday’s games, we have the 3 seeded Jacksonville Jaguars, and the 6 seeded Buffalo Bills, who for the first time in over 20 years have made the playoffs! The game was surprisingly close as the halftime score was 3-3 Bills and Jags tied. But the Jaguars scored in the second half holding the Bills to 0 points! As the Jags won on a Jalen Ramsey interception to end the game 10-3 Jaguars winning to face the 2 seeded Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday, January 14thz. Moving on to the final game of the Wild Card Weekend we have the 5 seeded Carolina Panthers against the 4 seeded New Orleans Saints. It was a close one as the Saints were only able to prevail 31-26. The first quarter was a defensive game as the only points in the first quarter was one rushing touchdown by the rookie sensation Alvin Kamara. Next quarter the Saints scored 2 touchdowns to extend their commanding 21-9 lead at the end of the first half. The third quarter did not host much excitement as both teams ended up with 3 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, the score is now 24-12 as the Saints are 15 minutes away from a Divisional Playoff Berth. The 4th quarter began as Cam Newton passing to pro-bowl tight end Greg Olsen for a 14-yard touchdown. They quickly started proving that they were in this as much as the Saints were. The spark quickly went out quickly as the Saints kept the lead and ended up winning 31-26, and advancing to the Divisional Round against the 2 seeded Minnesota Vikings.

The Wild Card round has proved to be an interesting round as the Saints, Falcons, Titans, and Jaguars continue their quest to be the seventh wild card team to win the super bowl. All the teams will have to pull of a huge upset if they hope to continue their playoff hopes.
