Recently the new Spider-Man movie came out. It’s called “Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse”. Critics and fans alike are raving about it. As someone who doesn’t generally enjoy Marvel movies, I adored it. The praise is well deserved. The art itself is very interesting, it has a compelling plot, and the overall editing choices truly tie it together. This movie is a pleasure to watch and I absolutely recommend it.

The movie is animated, and it’s done very well. Overall it’s smooth and fitting, plus the characters are perfectly designed and fit very well into this style. The atmosphere created from this animation is incredibly fitting for what it is. Throughout the movie, every asset is kept amazingly consistent and never feels out of place. Having the movie animated gives them much more freedom in what they can do, which works very well with the superhero theme.

Along with the animation, the story is incredible. The overall plot is that a party of different Spider-People all come to Marvel’s classic New York, because of a break in the space-time continuum. The host of different characters personalities and traits mesh together perfectly. Seeing all the very different characters have to learn to work together for the greater good is amazingly compelling and was a blast to watch. The whole movie isn’t a light-hearted comedy, there are times when you are reminded that this 13-year-old kid is suddenly thrust into this super-hero lifestyle essentially overnight. It’s all put together in such a way that’s entertaining and compelling to watch.

Tying everything together is the editing. Every scene, cut, and the song fits in right where it should, nothing feels out of place. Throughout the film, a comic book aesthetic where you can see speech bubbles and some actions are accentuated with text. It’s a nice poke at the comic book roots of the Spider-Man series. It’s also something they could achieve very well since the movie was animated. It helps tie together the overall feeling and experience you get from watching the movie. It’s the small touches they bring it through editing that really make this movie as amazing as it is.

As someone who never really expected to enjoy Marvel or Super-hero movies, I only watched it because John Mulaney is the voice of Peter Porker or Spider-Ham, I genuinely recommend this film to everyone out there. All the aspects of the movie were obviously very well thought out and truly make it an absolute blast to watch. So if anyone’s not sure what to watch remember that this movie is out there and absolutely worth the watch.
