Welcome to The Best App for That, where I review smartphone apps. Each month I compare two apps and tell you which one is better, and which one to leave in the app store. This month I reviewed two weather apps. Both of the names of the apps are “Weather”.  I reviewed the app that is automatically downloaded  on to an iPhone, and an app that you can download on the App store.

First, I reviewed Weather. (app iPhone users can choose to download)

This app allows you to add any city in the world, and see the current weather, as well as the weather for the rest of the week. It also allows you to view a temperature map of the city you add. There are a few other features, such as other map views of rain, clouds, and satellites. However, these apps are only available to members which costs $9.99 a month.

PROS:

  • Allows you to view any city in the world’s weather forecast.
  • Offers a temperature map feature for your selected city.
  • Free to download

CONS:

  • You have to become a member to use many features.
  • It doesn’t automatically give you the weather in your current location.
  • Only allows Fahrenheit

Then, I reviewed Weather. (app that is automatically downloaded on to iphones)

Summary: This app is a little more simple than its competitors, but it gets the job done. This app also allows you to choose any city in the world, and will give you its current and upcoming weather forecast. It also gives you the option to choose Celsius or Fahrenheit, which is convenient for anyone in the world. It  also uses current location services to give you the weather in your current place in the world.

This is an example of what the inside of the weather app looks like. This image is from the app that I prefer.

PROS:

  • Allows any city in the world
  • Celsius and Fahrenheit options
  • Current location services available
  • Free to download

CONS

  • No temperature map option (compared to other app)

In conclusion, I think both apps are very helpful. However, I think that it is unnecessary to download another app from the App Store if you already have one that is better on your phone. Therefore, I think Weather ( app already downloaded onto phone), is better. See you next month, when I will tell you The Best App For That!
